The Historic Hotel Petaluma sits distinctly at 205 Kentucky Street, in the heart of downtown. Petaluma is a quiet getaway with easy access to California wine country, boutique shops, trendy bars, a vast array of restaurants, art galleries and local attractions — most of them within a few blocks of the front door.

At the door

Downtown Petaluma

Our 1924 hotel sits in the city centre, surrounded by boutiques, antiques shops, restaurants and businesses. Petaluma escaped the 1906 earthquake almost untouched, which is why so much of the downtown still stands as it was built.

Wineries, breweries, the Phoenix and Mystic theaters, the Petaluma Library Museum, Petaluma Creamery ice cream and paddle-boarding sites on the Petaluma River are all within a mile of the front door.

Four hundred wineries

Hotel Petaluma sits near four hundred wineries, with easy coastal access to Northern California. Sonoma and Napa are both within a comfortable drive, and tasting rooms fill the blocks around Kentucky Street if you would rather not drive at all.

Why the town is here

Eggs, grain and a river

During the Gold Rush, settlers moving inland found fertile valley floor along the Petaluma River and stayed. Grain milling, dairy farms and egg processing followed — by 1920 the population had passed six thousand, and the town needed a hotel.

Until Highway 101 was built, the Petaluma River was the main channel for commerce into San Francisco. Guests arrived at this hotel by ferry and by railway.
